Sharp contrast between past and present self to deepen curiosity about what changed.

Why it works

The video works by pairing a relatable childhood clip with a vulnerable confession about how different adulthood feels, creating an emotional curiosity loop: what happened between then and now? The creator taps into a universal fear of losing one's authentic, playful self to life and environment, then closes with clear morals that give viewers a takeaway about their own lives. Structurally, it moves from personal story (before/after) to generalized lessons, which broadens relevance beyond just his experience.

Swipe-file takeaways

  • Use an old photo or video of yourself as a visual hook, then immediately describe your emotional reaction to it.
  • Create contrast between your past and present self to open a curiosity gap about what changed.
  • Zoom out from your specific story into 2–3 clear, numbered lessons so viewers can apply it to themselves.
  • End with a gentle directive ("don’t lose that part of yourself") to turn reflection into a resonant call-to-action.
  • Vulnerability about disliking the camera or changing over time builds connection, especially in talking-head formats.

Full script

My mom recently sent me this video of me from when I was eight years old and it just really fucked my head up. This is me around eight years old being an obnoxious little kid you know just loving the camera. Today I'm a 41 year old boy that pretty much hates being on camera. I'm pretty reserved pretty quiet guy but then I was watching this and I asked myself like where did that kid Where did that kid go? Like where in my timeline in my life did I go from that to here? And that's what really fucked my head up. The moral of the story is you never really know how a kid's going to turn out in the future. Number two, how they grow up in their environment really affects how they're going to turn out. And number three, if you ever went through a stage like this, don't lose that part of yourself and let the seriousness of the world take over your life.
